About

My name is Ryan. I'm a 38-year-old living in New Mexico with my 10-year-old son. This blog is my way of expressing myself outside the ecosystem of social media.

I grew up in a multicultural family with Native American, Indigenous Mexican, and Pennsylvania Dutch roots. As a kid I danced Pow Wow and did all my own beadwork and quillwork for it, traditions that were a meaningful part of my upbringing.

I have been playing World of Warcraft since it launched back when I was in high school and I still play to this day. I played Dungeons and Dragons in college as well and I am now exploring getting back into it, both locally and through my Discord community. Gardening, philosophy, journaling, and historical fencing round out how I spend my time.

Aside from gaming, Amtgard LARP is where I invest most of my time and energy. It is the heart of my social life and where my deepest sense of friendship and community comes from. If you see me at kingdom events, don't be afraid to say hello!

More recently I got into Pennsylvania Dutch Fraktur art, which appealed to me because it sits at the intersection of art, calligraphy, and archiving family history. That interest led me to begin apprenticing as a scribe within the SCA, where I am learning to create medieval illuminated scrolls.

Thank you so much for reading my blog and if you have any questions or want to connect, feel free to reach out.
